Ratsherren Brewery, Hamburg
Restoration, renovation and conversion of Hamburg's “Schanzenhöfe” - into a brewery experience centre
The “Ratsherren” brand is synonymous with best quality brewing craft from Hamburg. After a sleeping beauty styled sleep, they got back to business in 2012. To kick off business again, the master brewers were looking for a fresh and modern home with traditional character and deep roots in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg. The over 100-year-old cow market in the colourful “Schanzenviertel” area was almost predestined to be their new home. Our job was the restoration, renovation and conversion of the dilapidated buildings into a brewery experience centre.
One special challenge were the strict rules on listed buildings, which we of course fully adhered to. We built the supporting steel structure as well as the entire shell of the brewery cellar. We gave the old sawtooth roofs a new supporting structure, which worked as a basis for new insulation and bitumen roofing. Thanks to a detailed schedule and closely coordinated work with the individual companies working on the project with us, it was possible to create a modern brewery experience centre in which the “Schanzenhöfe Braumanufaktur GmbH” can efficiently produce beer now and most definitely into the future.
